How We Work
Our repair work is performed by an all-volunteer labor force at no cost to our clients.We have found that our efforts often act as a catalyst for additional neighborhood improvements. Since 1991, we have partnered with local government, corporations, trade unions, and civic groups to repair 1,900 homes and 285 nonprofit facilities in local communities.
Meet Basic Needs: Our programs allow clients to use their limited budget for basic essentials like food and medication, rather than costly home repairs. We do not require sweat equity and never charge for our services.
Holistic Approach: We address the needs of each home and its occupants, with a focus on health and safety.
Exceptional Business Model: Every $1 we receive turns into $3.25 worth of services to residents in low-income neighborhoods-- resulting in $2 million invested in our communities every year.
National Rebuilding Day
Our home repair program culminates every year on the last Saturday in April, National Rebuilding Day. On this day thousands of volunteers come together to complete home repair projects for area residents.
Safe at Home
Safe at Home serves homeowners in need of basic home modifications and small accessibility improvements with repairs that include installation of grab bars, handrails and smoke detectors.
Give Back Day
Give Back Days are an excellent team-building opportunity for large groups of employees to work together while helping to strengthen and revitalize the Chicagoland community.
Make a Difference Day
Every year on the 4th Saturday in October, volunteers provide repairs to help seniors live in safety and independence.
